President’s Message/Bill Rushmore
Many of us have been experimenting with artificial intelligence (AI) over the past year and have seen it become more capable and useful. As AI tools continue to evolve, some now offer premium subscription options for advanced features, while others are beginning to include advertising. I’ll spend the first 10 minutes of our AI 101 session at the next meeting discussing what’s changed and how to get the most value from the free versions that are still available. If you’ve been using AI and have discovered helpful or interesting ways it can make daily tasks easier, please let me know. I’d love to include your ideas and experiences in the class discussion.
Please also consider volunteering to serve as our chapter secretary. The position is still open, and we’d appreciate your help. The primary responsibility is recording meeting minutes, and you’ll have plenty of support. Two current officers already share this duty, so you would not need to attend every meeting. It’s a great way to contribute to the chapter while helping us continue serving our members.
November Minutes/Marianne Ruffner
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance at 1:02 PM. 26 members were in attendance with 1 visitor.
The minutes from the previous meeting that were posted online were passed and seconded.
Treasurer Report Judy stated that we are still waiting for our grant money to come through. We currently have $82 in our account that was intended for the Genesis House Grandparents Program, which has since been discontinued. Judy made the motion to increase the amount due to the organization to $100, send a check and close our account. The motion was seconded and passed.
Old Business Bill said the Senior Fair at the Hampton Community Center went well. Information was distributed about our AARP group and hopefully we can get some new members.
New Business Bill will be providing some short classes on AI at our meetings in an attempt to get us up to speed on this new technology.
Mariane distributed a Trips and Tours survey to see what places/experiences members are interested in. If you have any ideas, please let her know.
We still have an opening for Secretary! The job involves taking minutes at the monthly meetings, typing them and sending them to our newsletter editor, Cathy. Please consider serving your AARP!
Today’s program is Intro to Archeology, provided by the Allegheny Park Rangers. Our next meeting is November 12, 2026 at 12:30 PM. Our guest speaker will be Jim Haller, docent from the Heinz History Center. In keeping with Veterans Day, we will find out about what was happening in Pittsburgh during WW II.
Mariane Ruffner won the 50/50 raffle for $46.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:22 PM.

Entertainment Report/Marianne Ruffner
We certainly learned a lot about some cool digs (archeological, that is) in our program about historical finds in our area, provided by the Allegheny Park Rangers. It’s great to havethese knowledgeable folks working for us in Western Pennsylvania.
To celebrate Veteran’s Day, our November speaker is Jim Haller, docent from the Heinz History Center. He will enlighten us about Pittsburgh during WW II. Jim’s spoken to us before about the history of Football and Radio, and always provided gems of knowledge about our neighborhood’s past.
Looking ahead to December, we have our annual Christmas Covered Dish Party with musical entertainment provided by Simply StringsPlus One. Start thinking about what delicious food you’ll bring to add to the festivities.
Service Project/Janet Rushmore
We continue to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive in November to benefit North Hills Community Outreach. Canned goods, packaged food, and cleaning products are welcomed. Please bring what you can afford to the next meeting for delivery before Thanksgiving. The families participating in the “food bank” are most appreciative!
We will be exploring HEARTH Pgh in Allison Park as our new 2027 community service project. They provide safe, affordable housing and personalized support to moms and kids rebuilding after homelessness and domestic violence. Their trained team helps families build confidence and move toward lasting independence. After the holidays, a guest from HEARTH Pgh will be invited to the Chapter for a brief explanation of their mission to provide safety, stability and support for young women.
